COVID-19 more restrictions ease in Malta

Today, 18th May 2020, the Maltese government announced lifting more restrictions that were imposed during March 2020. Although COVID-19 restrictions ease is good news, the government still said that precautions should be taken as there was a change in the everyday’s norm. And the virus is still out there in the community. This means that precautions need to be adhered to. All this will be applied as from this Friday 22nd May.

The first set of restrictions ease was announced in the first days of May.

Which are the changes during the second COVID-19 restrictions ease?

  • Restaurants will now be allowed to reopen. The number of maximum seating per table will be of six persons. There should be an adequate distance between one table and another. Although this will also apply to snack bars and cafeterias, not the same can be said for bars. Restaurants with outdoor space should make use of this area and not the indoor space.
  • Shops with specified services like hairdressers, barber shops, beauticians and nail salons will be allowed to reopen as from this Friday. There will be restrictions in place to protect both the employees and also the clients.
  • Funeral celebrations with limited attendance will also be allowed.
  • Open area activities where social distancing can take place may also be held. Example mentioned were of open-air cinemas.
  • Sports was also on the agenda. Individual /Non-contact sports will be allowed. There was no go ahead for other type of sports.
  • People gathered together in public can now increase from four to six.
