Latest news from Press Conference held on 12 March 2020 re COVID19 Malta

Any kind of school and childcare centre will be closing their doors for one week. This will commence tomorrow Friday 12 March 2020. This include all schools:
Primary
Secondary,
Post-secondary,
Tertiary institutions.
This will be reviewed again next week.

Parents should take care of their children and take vacation leave if necessary. Children should be kept at home and also avoid visiting their grandparents or elderly people.

Elderly people which are under the Pharmacy of Your Choice scheme will be supplied with two months’ worth of their medicines.

With immediate effect all mass events should be cancelled. Football matches (including youths) will be played behind closed doors. Enforcement will ramp up if people will not cooperate with measure about mass gatherings such as weddings.

Church celebrations and activities such as daily and Sunday masses have been called off. Such celebrations will be aired on television and internet (Monday to Friday at 9.30am, Saturday at 6.30pm and Sunday at 9am).

What is coronavirus (COVID19) ?

Coronavirus is a respiratory virus. It was detected in the city of Wuhan in China. By now, this virus has infected thousands of Chinese citizens and it is also spreading in other countries. This was declared as pandemic on Wednesday 11th March 2020.
