Good Friday in Malta 2021

Today the Church decided to cancel Holy Week celebrations that include pilgrimages, processions or manifestations related to Lent and Holy Week. These activities have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The church also advised to pray and to do charity work. It will continue to monitor the public health situation, so later, it will issue directives on how the Paschal Triduum will be celebrated.

The bishops of Malta and Gozo also encouraged the public to observe directives issued by the health authorities.

This is the second year in a row that these celebrations are being cancelled because of coronavirus. In the past, the cancellation of these activities depended on bad weather.

The processions which attract thousands of people are normally held in the following locations:

Bormla

Paola
Qormi – San Gorg
