Lake Garda

Lago di Garda

Lake Garda, in Italian Lago di Garda, is the largest lake in Italy. It is located in Northern Italy, between Venice and Milan, and between Brescia and Verona. The shoreline and the lake itself are divided between the provinces of Verona, Brescia and Trento.

Document dating back to the eighth century, reveals that the name Garda, for which the lake is named, comes from the town with the same name. It derives from the German word warda meaning “place of guard” or “place of observation”.
