The first concert for the new year is by the talented classical guitarist Bernard Catania. Catania will be giving a recital where one can enjoy and admire the ability of this artist at adapting to a wide range of techniques and styles from baroque to Spanish, Latin-American and contemporary classical guitar music. During this concert, Catania will perform vibrant guitar works by Antonio Lauro, Leo Brouwer, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Astor Piazzolla, Augustin Barrios, Joao Pernambuco, Gaspar Sanz and Isaac Albeniz amongst others. Amid his most exciting pieces, there are Un Dia De Noviembre and Asturias, two splendid vibrant Spanish pieces which evoke a thousand emotions of Latin-American passion and sensations. Bernard Catania Bernard Catania (b.1983) is a Maltese guitarist. At the young age of nine years, he attended his first guitar lessons at St Monica School, Mosta and afterwards attended classes at the National School of Music in Valletta. From 1998, he started classical guitar lessons with the Maltese classical guitarist Tony Pace, which studies ended in the year 2005 when he obtained the ALCM Diploma in classical guitar from the London College of Music. In the same year he started lessons in music theory, harmony and composition with Mro. Ronnie Debattista. In the year 2007, Bernard obtained the A(Mus)LCM Diploma in Theory of Music from the London College of Music. In the year 2019, Bernard obtained the LLCM Diploma in classical guitar from the London College of Music and the ARSM Diploma in classical guitar from the Royal Schools of Music. Bernard regularly takes part in master-classes held by the internationally acclaimed Maltese classical guitarist Simon Schembri.Bernard has been giving regular solo classical guitar recitals in Malta and has also collaborated with Maltese flutist Robert Calleja in performing works for the classical guitar and flute. His solo classical guitar repertoire includes pieces from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods together with works of Spanish and Latin American composers. In the past two years Bernard has been giving regular solo classical guitar recitals at the Carmelite Priory in Mdina and has also collaborated with Maltese flautist Robert Calleja in playing works for classical guitar and flute. His solo classical guitar repertoire includes pieces from the renaissance, baroque and classical periods together with works of Spanish and Latin American composers.
