These concerts feature various local and foreign artists with different genres of music from baroque to classical to contemporary. Date of Concert: Tuesday 18 February 2020 at 12:30pmName : AutClassical Songs and Arias by mezzo soprano Maria Mallia and pianist Julia MillerVenue: St Catherine of Italy Church, Valletta Barocco Foundation presents emerging mezzo soprano Maria Mallia, alongside well-known pianist Julia Miller during a lunchtime concert highlighting inspiring arias and songs. Mozart’s lively ‘Voi che sapete’ from his opera The Marriage of Figaro opens the concert together with Gluck’s Che faro` senza Euricide, followed by melodious Italian songs by Bellini, Tosti, Donizetti and Denza as well as the emotional Ave Maria by Gomez. Maria Mallia Maria Mallia is a 23 year Mezzo-Soprano. She has been studying classical singing since 2014 under the guidance of Maltese Soprano Ms Juliette Bisazza. She was an involved member of the Manoel Theatre Youth Opera – TMYO – 2017/2018, performing in a number of concerts. Maria is also a part of the Mirabitur Choir and the Cappella Diacono Choir and an active soloist under the baton of Ms Simone Attard and Maestro Ray Sciberras respectively. Maria possesses an MD Degree in Doctor of Medicine and Surgery. Julia Miller During the past years Julia Miller has played most of the top venues in Malta, both as a music collaborator and as a soloist, and participated in several festivals such as Violin and Friends International Music Festival in 2015, International Spring Orchestra Festival in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, she was chosen to be to be the accompanist for world-renowned soprano Miriam Gauci during her masterclasses part of the Gaulitana Festival. Following the concert concluding the masterclasses, Miriam Gauci hailed Julia Miller’s talent and style, calling her one of the best pianists she ever worked with. Julia is scheduled to be the the pianist for Ms Gauci’s advanced classes in April 2020 as well as a pianist for masterclasses with Claire Debono during the Malta International Spring Festival 2020.
