Malta COVID-19 – press conference 1st June 2020

During the press conference of 1st June 2020 related to COVID-19 restrictions in Malta, the Prime Minister, Health Minister and Superintendent of Public Health gave more information of what will happen from Friday 5th June onward. They advised that there are three principles that the society must adhere to:-
– keeping social distancing
– washing of hands, personal hygiene and hygiene in general
– wearing mask in places indicated by Health Authorities

Main interesting points from press conference – COVID-19 Malta

These are the main points of interests which emerged from the press conference delivered by the Prime Minister, Health Minister and Superintendent of Public Health.

  • restrictions will be lifted from almost all sectors
  • airport and ports will reopen from 1st July
  • there are 19 countries that have been chosen as safe corridors
  • child care facilities will reopen
  • mass events cannot be held like we had during last summer
  • the R-Factor is now down to 0.5
  • religious services to resume by mid-June; more information will be provided by the archbishop during the following days
  • a mini-budget will be announced on Monday 8th June
  • health services to resume
  • there will be no quarantine for those tourists arriving from the safe corridors
  • appeal for everyone to return to work
  • opening of bars and gyms
  • retail outlets that have remained shut will be able to open

Countries / islands considered as safe corridors

For the time being big countries like France, Spain, England and Italy (excl. Sicily and Sardinia) have not been considered as safe corridors for travelling to and from Malta. Below is the list of those considered as safe corridors:

  1. spent almost £2000 on a hotel + flights been going to Malta since I was at school there in my teens UK not on the list looks like we will have to look else where from now on…… gutted

    1. This is the first list. Countries will be added in due course – depending on how they are coping in their countries.
      Obviously, it also depends on the dates that you have booked.
      It is a pity – this virus was a pain to everyone in a way or another.
