This is the fourth time that a Pope will be visiting the Maltese Islands. Pope Francis and Malta The Holy Press Office (from the Vatican City) announced that the present Pope, Pope Francis, will be visiting Malta and Gozo on May 31, 2020. This news was greatly welcomed by the Maltese people.This announcement was made by the Matteo Bruni who is the Director of the Holy See Press Office states:” Welcoming the invitation of the President of the Republic of Malta, the Authorities and the Catholic Church of the Country, His Holiness Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Journey to Malta and Gozo on 31st May 2020.” The above message was announces by President George Vella during the mass that was celebrated at St Paul’s Shipwreck church in Valletta. This message was greeted with loud applause from those present. Prime Minister Robert Abela reacted positively to this announcement. He stated that although Malta is small in size, it is still respected by the world leaders. The Archbishop of Malta, Charles Scicluna, made reference to the St. Paul’s Shipwreck event, were 2,000 years ago, the Maltese people helped St. Paul.
