It is easily accessible by bus, or car. A nice walk in the narrow streets, a fantastic lunch, a good rest in the municipal gardens and a tasty ice-cream is all you need at this wonderful place. Taormina The “comune” of Taormina forms part of Messina. Maybe Taormina, is the most beautiful place in Sicily. It has been a tourist destination since the 19th century. It is positioned opposite volcano Etna and situated on Monte Tauro. The beautiful island “Isola Bella”, which is a protected natural site, looks like paradise. Taormina is thirteen square kilometres and has a population of around eleven thousand. Apart of tourism, it is also re known for culture. Whilst walking around the streets of Taormina you will see the ancient Greek theatre, many old churches, great restaurants and antique shops. Taormina is a 45 minutes drive from the largest European volcano, Etna. It has an area of 14.3 square kilometers, most of them being green areas. I has a population of 1,107. To be exact, it is above Taormina. At the very top of Castelmola, one can find the ruins of a Norman castle. From this castle came out the name of Castelmola, Castel meaning Castle, and Mola is the gridstone. This iconic place is very small and one can go round all the streets within minutes. There are some good restaurants with breathtaking views. It is one of those places where all you need to do is relax. Caffè Turrisi’ is a very famous cafe-bar at this location. A visit to Taormina and Castelmola is never a waste of time.
