It is very popular for the sea caves known as Blue Grotto, for the beautiful cliffs, for the good restaurants and for the deep sea waters. All this make Wied iż-Żurrieq rank in the top 10 tourist attractions of the island.This small fishing hamlet is part of a small town named Qrendi. The word “wied” means valley and this suggests that this hamlet is found at the end of a valley, Wied Ħoxt. There is an old guard tower dated back from the times of the Order of St. John.Here it is only known for nice coastal walks and also for swimming and diving. In fact, here is one of the most popular diving spot, Um El-Faroud. Click here to view photos Blue Grotto During good weather and calm waters, one can take a boat trip to visit a number of caves. The most popular is Blue Grotto. The rest are Reflection Cave, Filfla Cave, Cats Cave, Rotunda Cave, Honey Moon Cave and Blue Window Cave. It is well suggested to take the boat trip to see the wonders of these caves and the nice sea full of the reflections produces by the same caves. The best time is during the first hours of the morning. Boat trip at Wied iż-Żurrieq Restaurants Although Wied iż-Żurrieq is extremely small, and you can easily walk from one side to the other in less than 2 minutes, it has a good number of restaurants. Needless to say, since this village is situated by the sea, these restaurant specialize in fish dishes, but not only. Some of these restaurants have breathtaking views and it is worth a visit.
